Your Roof, Your Protection
Reduce the risk of fire damage.
Your roof protects you, your family, and your belongings, and feeling safe and secure in your home is important. If your roof becomes damaged or there are shingles missing or broken, it is not going to provide the full protection you want for your family. Damaged areas of the roof won’t have the same protection as other areas, whether you’re missing some shingles or have a gap in your flashing. Having holes and gaps repaired will also help protect your roof against fire damage. When your roof is installed, speak with your contractor about the type of roofing materials being used. The highest quality roofing materials are the most fire-resistant. Here are some more precautions you can take to help better protect your roof from fire damage:
Keep your roof free of debris. This will help avoid any debris catching on fire and possibly burning through your roof
Keep the perimeter around your house clear. If something around the side of your house catches on fire it will likely make its way straight to your roof.
Keep your electrical systems in good condition. Electrical wiring is often the cause of roof fires. Light fixtures are close to the roof, and if they fail, it can cause fire damage to your roof
Install a lightning arrestor. A lightning arrestor will provide a safe path for electricity to travel to the ground
Keep your chimney clean. Cleaning your chimney at least once a year will avoid buildup. Buildup of combusted material can easily ignite sending sparks onto your roof.
