Wind Driven Rain
For many people, the terms wind driven or driving rain evokes images similar to above, tropical storms with hurricane force winds wreaking havoc on everything in its path. However for anyone that’s experienced a severe thunder storm knows all too well it can do just as much damage without being anywhere near the coast.
Have you ever thought about what this might be doing to your roof?
Water can be a pretty invasive element finding its way into even the smallest pinhole. It often does this when coupled with gale force winds causing leaks to materialize where nothing was evident before. Rain that has been driven by wind, often blowing horizontally, can not only make its way past your shingles but flashing, skylights, siding, windows, corner boards, dormers and chimneys.
Sounds a little scary doesn’t it? It doesn’t have to be. Having a qualified and certified roofer evaluate your roof and provide routine maintenance is really the best preventative measure. Routinely checking the roof penetrations around pipe boots, vents and chimneys, checking for clogged gutters, nail pops etc. will go a long way in protecting one of your biggest investments – your home. If your property does sustain damage during a storm, be sure the have the repairs made as soon as possible. The longer storm damage goes unrepaired the greater the risk of more extensive damages down the road.
